About
Lucy Wilson is a British artist living and working in Cambridge. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts.
She graduated from Camberwell College of Arts with a First Class degree, where her work was described as “exactly what students should be attempting - the impossible, the outrageous, the sublime. It certainly jolts you out of whatever conceptions you previously held.”
She received a place at the Royal College of Art but her career turned towards galleries and arts institutions in London, where she also wrote for art magazines, before moving into publishing.
She rediscovered her drawing practice during lockdown and has since been drawing from life and via workshops and masterclasses with the Royal Drawing School and London Drawing.
Her drawings are mainly figurative - portraits of people doing, thinking, daydreaming, working.
Her work is in a number of private collections .
Portrait Commissions
Commissioning a portrait is a collaborative process. Here is a simple outline of the steps we will take:
1. Meet and discuss. We can meet in person or online. I’ll ask you questions so that I can fully understand what you’re hoping for. What size? What material? Do you have a particular space where you want to hang the work? How we will approach the commission - will it be from real life sittings or from photos?
2. Receive a quote. Prices depend on the size, material and whether the commission involves a live sitting. For an A3 size work (30 x 42cm) drawings start from £100, oil paintings from £250. For works over £500, I ask for a 10% deposit in advance.
3. Concept drawings. I’ll do some simple drawings before working up a final piece. This gives you an idea of a composition and helps to make sure you’re happy. I can do this either during a live sitting or sometimes from photos. We can make adjustments at this stage before I go ahead and develop the finished work.
4. The finished piece. You’ll receive the finished piece. I can arrange framing if you’d like me to.
